Spring Work

As of yesterday, our garden is partially planted. My mom came up to help start the planting since we are sharing the garden, and Josh got off work early as well. We have 10 rows of corn, maybe a few more, and about two rows each of celery, beans, peas, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and different types of squashes. We still have to plant watermelon, pumpkins, potatoes, cabbage, dill, sunflowers, cucumbers, onions, lettuce and chives. Its a huge garden, and we want to fill it up so we can have plenty of fresh veggies for the picking and plenty left over for canning.
It was hard work since Aaron has the tiller, so we did it all by the good old way of hoeing our rows. But it was fun. The kids loved it too.
Our fruit trees have had plenty of blossoms on them and I am anxiously waiting for the fruit. We have wild strawberries growing as well and our grapes are starting to show some signs of life.
Last night everyone was in bed by 9:00 and the kids were asleep before 9:30...that's early for us!
Today the kids and I headed over to my grandparent's for a work day in taking care of flower beds, trimming bushes, removing rocks and cleaning off sidewalks. It was another day out in the sun, and the kids got to create some good memories. Then after the work, there was a surprise party thrown in honor of my grandma.
Josh has a three day weekend, so we are hoping to finish the garden.
Josh has made mention about how we need to be taking before and after pictures of everything that we are doing around the place, but honestly, we just get so caught up in the work that we don't think about it when we are doing the work. Our neighbor, Larry (who I just love) drives by every day to get the mail and stops to talk when he sees us out. He has mentioned so many times how he likes to see this place being taken care of again. It's alot of hard work. The property hasn't been used in about 15 years, but Josh and I love seeing the progress we have already been able to accomplish.
