Relay for Life

This weekend was our Relay for Life. My day started out bright and early by being at the fairgrounds before 8am to drop off the two diaper cakes for the silent auction. After doing that, I headed over to our campsite and helped set up our camp before taking my cousin Katie back home with me to get the kids and head back to the relay.
Already it was warm out.

We waited for the opening ceremonies where the Survivors introduce themselves and say how long they have been cancer free.

Trying to keep cool

It was too hot. I was miserable and started to feel sick. J.D. and Lily were flushed from the heat, so I decided that we needed to go home and cool off (plus take naps) for an hour or so. So Katie came home with us, and around 5pm we headed back to the Relay....this time to much more shade and some wind!

Things had slowed down a bit after dinner, so Lynn, Mom, Elizabeth and I decided to go get our hair cut at the Locks of Love Booth

THE event for Relay for Life is Mr. Relay. Men dress up as women and try to collect money. The 'woman' who has the most in her purse gets crowned Mr. Relay.
I love this event, and have tried to convice Josh for the past 6 years to do this.

After Mr. Relay, the kids and I went into a bounce house and wore off some extra energy. By this time it was close to 9pm and Lily was getting tired. We packed up and headed home, unable to stay for the Illuminary Lap, which is dedicated to those who have lost their fight with cancer. They do this lap at night, and light candles in bags along the track. It was a quiet, somber time as you do this lap in honor of all of those who have lost their battle.
