I am not big into the whole "new year resolution" thing, but throughout December and even late November I have been convicted of things. The reason why I know I am being convicted is because it is always at the back of my mind...the thoughts do not come and go. They stay and linger and truly convict me!
So I opened my heart up to Josh about the subject and he seemed to really support my decision to have a New Year's Resolution. My next thought was how am I going to keep myself motivated? (and no I am not talking about weight-loss). If I do not have a goal that I can see before me, I loose interest...especially a goal that will keep me going all year long. And then God showed me the answer! It's so amazing how things fall into place when God wants you to do something.
A couple of nights ago I was doing my nightly devotions. The scripture reference was Luke 2:52 "And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men." I really liked that verse and made a mental note to go back to it.
Then just the other day I received in my mail a magazine from MOPS. And what do you know, there is that scripture again! And they had an idea for me on how to take my resolution and apply it!
The verse in Luke states that Jesus grew in four ways: wisdom, stature, in favor with God, and with men. Those are the area's that I have been wanting to grow in as well, more in some areas and less in others, but none-the-less in all four areas.
The idea in the magazine had a chart, separating the areas into the four sections.
As I was making my own chart, I thought this would be good for J.D. as well. So I threw out mine and made one for the both of us...so he could see my progress as well. To make it more simpler for J.D. to understand I followed what MOPS did for their example. I switched the word 'wisdom' for 'brain', 'stature' for 'body', 'God' for 'faith and instead of 'men' I put 'giving to others'. Then I divided up each section into two other, one for J.D. and one for myself, putting a goal for J.D. to accomplish in a month, and a goal for myself to accomplish. For each goal or part of a goal that is accomplished we will get stickers (not a great reward for me, but works with J.D.). Then after the month is done, we will make another and do this for the entire year using Luke 2:52 as our reference.
I am looking forward to this resolution for my long term goal: to become a better 'me' for who God wants me to be.

That's so funny because Chris preached on that text on Sunday, too! Do ya think God's telling you something? :o)
Praise The Lord!! I love hearing testimonies like that. God promises to give us wisdom if we ask, not wavering. Its in James. God is so good!
